Guidelines for School Discipline
Hairdressing
a. Hair dyeing and hair accessories are not allowed.
b. Students are allowed to use gel to make their hair neat and tidy.
c. If students have natural non-black hair colour, prefects should make their own sensible judgment. For inquiries, seek help from the Head Prefect.
Record the offence. If a student's hair is dyed, he will be given 3 days to dye
his hair black. Give his name to Mr. Y.L. Chung for follow-up inspections.
Pullovers and Coats
a. Only grey, navy blue and black v-neck pullovers are allowed.
b. No other coats besides the school fleece jacket or blazer is allowed.
c. F. 1 - F. 5 students are only allowed to put on pullovers with the "SJC" logo.
Record the offence. Students will be asked to take their coats or sweaters off
and the Head Prefect or Senior Prefects will confiscate it. This would be handed to
Mr. Y.L. Chung. (If the weather is too cold and the student has no other coat
available, he should be sent directly to the Discipline Master.)
Prohibited items
a. Cigarettes, magazines, comic books, chewing gum, gambling related items, and dangerous objects such as knives are forbidden.
b. Students are not allowed to use mobile phones during lessons. They must be turned to "off mode". If mobile phones cause disturbance to lessons, they will be confiscated.
Record the offence. The Head Prefect and Senior Prefects have the right to
confiscate any prohibited items found with students. Confiscated items would be
given to Mr. Y.L. Chung for follow-up action.
Shoes and socks
a. Only black leather shoes are allowed. No sport shoes will be allowed except during PE lessons.
b. Low-cut socks are not allowed.
c. Only black, blue, white or grey socks are allowed.
Record the offence. Students should be asked to see the Head Prefect, who will
check that the correct footwear is worn on the next day. If students don't have
proper footwear at home, they will be given 3 days to buy proper ones. Send the
student to Mr. Y.L. Chung immediately who will follow up on the situation.
Undergarment
a. The P.E. uniform is NOT allowed to be worn as undergarments.
b. All other undershirts should be pure white in color.
c. Shirts printed with school team logos or words are NOT allowed.
Record the offence. The student will be required to take off the undergarments at
once. Prefects will check that proper uniform is worn on the following school day.
If the offence is committed again, the student should be sent to Mr. Y.L. Chung.
Accessories
a. Necklaces are not allowed unless they are related to religious beliefs.
b. Rings, bracelets and earrings are not allowed.
c. If students need to wear certain accessories, they must hand in a Parent's Letter to Mr. Y.L. Chung.
Record the offence. The Head Prefect or Senior Prefects would confiscate the item which will be handed to Mr. Y.L. Chung who will take appropriate action.
Language, Attitude and Undesirable Behaviour
a. Language — foul and indecent language is strictly prohibited.
b. Attitude — being disrespectful to a teacher or prefect is an offence.
c. Undesirable behavior — any dangerous action such as fighting, bullying, playing ball games inside classrooms etc, or any deliberate damage to school property is a serious offence.
Record the offence. For indecent language or disrespectful
attitudes, consult the class prefect within two weeks to see if the
habit is corrected. For undesirable behaviour, immediately take the
student to the Discipline Master.
Outside-Classroom Behaviour
a. No football playing is allowed in the covered playgrounds.
b. Only Form 1 students are allowed to use the triangular playground.
c. No running is allowed in the corridors or stairs.
Give students a warning about their offence. Repeated offences should be recorded.
Interchanging of Lessons
a. Students should remain silent and stay inside the classroom.
b. Students should not play ball games or wander around the classroom.
c. Students are NOT allowed to go to the washrooms without permission.
Prefects should give a warning if too much noise is heard. They can ask students to go back into the classroom if they don't have permission to go to the washrooms.
Personal Conduct
a. Littering is not allowed.
b. Climbing or jumping over fences in the playground is forbidden.
c. Cutting in queues or asking other students to buy food and drinks in the canteen is strictly prohibited.
Record the offence. Students would be ordered to line-up again if they cut in
queues. If habitual offences are seen, send the student to the discipline teachers
of his form.
For most cases, students will be sent to the Head Prefect or Senior Prefects for
punishment or follow-up inspections. Only upon repeated offences or prolonged
poor conduct would students be sent to the Discipline teachers.
The Head Prefect will give regular discipline reports to the Discipline
Master.
Prefects have the right to perform their duties in class. Names recorded
should be given to the Head Prefect or any other Senior Prefects.
Discipline teachers can ask Prefects to help them for follow-up inspections or
any other disciplinary affairs. If teachers have any inquiries about a certain
student's behavior, or whether the Prefects' Board is aware of a student's violation
of school rules (e.g. hair is dyed), they may call upon the Head Prefect for
information.
Teachers and students can approach the Discipline Master or Head Prefect for a
common understanding of the above stated school regulations. If there are any doubts
to this document, the school rules stated in the student diary shall apply.
The Head Prefect is authorized to take any appropriate action towards cases not
mentioned in this guideline. He should fully report to the Discipline Master
afterwards.
